ModooTheatre

Korean-language theatre with sensory English subtitles — original work from the San Francisco Bay Area about the quiet, fierce everyday lives of modern pioneers.

(a) Mission

Jogakbo — separate pieces stitched into one cloth.

"We are not just immigrants; we are all pioneers shaping modern America." Modoo Theatre brings the quiet yet fierce everyday lives of these pioneers to the stage through Korean dialogue, theatrical symbolism, and English subtitles — showing that our lives are woven together like jogakbo, the traditional Korean patchwork, to form the true fabric of America.

Watching Korean on stage while reading English is exactly how the Bay Area already lives — in markets, clinics, and on the street, where languages cross every day. Our subtitles are written as performance text, not translation footnotes.

(b) Approach

Built from the étude up.

01

Étude training

Stanislavski-based ensemble practice: voice, speech, and stage movement, 3 hours per session.

02

Étude to script

Actors improvise moments from their own pioneering lives; the play is written from what surfaces.

03

Theatrical realism

Symbol, physical theatre, and musical sequences carry the passion under an ordinary surface.

04

Subtitles as text

Sensory English captions written to land the same beat as the Korean line.

(c) Leadership

A project-based company with a founding core.

Founding members hold the vision and oversee each production; specialists are contracted per project with clear scopes and per-project budgets.
